Seoul Searching: Nami Island

March 29, 2016 Tsina 0 Comments

It was already a visit to the Nami Island on our second day. We took the subway to Gapyeong Station, and took the cab instead of waiting for the tour bus. We were in group anyway. We took the ferry, and paid 8,000 won for the entrance.

We were thinking of renting a bike, you know Koreanovela feels, but decided to walk first. I was really hoping to see the beautiful autumn, but it was only the start of the season when we came there. We explored the place, and admire what we found there. After all, we were in Nami Island. I went to Korea for the Nami Island, seriously.

We found the area where they shot the Winter Sonata. I watched this Koreanovela when I was a kid. The snowmen were part of the series. Hmm, you don't really expect me to remember the series, noh? :P

mga trip ko sa buhay

In the Metasequoia, we tried to get our best snapshots despite the number of tourists on that day. I had to get my profile-worthy photo in this place! This was edited, thus the color.
posture, ugh
There wasn't much to explore in Nami Island except for the walking paths. Well, I came for the Metasequoia walking path. We took our lunch, and we bought ref magnets in one of the shops. After few more photo ops, we decided to leave. We were unable to rent a bike when we went there. We just did a lot of walking. We also did not head to Petite France as planned, we went back in the city, and went to Myeongdong for a bit of shopping. We actually did a lot of shopping in this trip. :P

Seoul Searching: Everland

March 28, 2016 Tsina 1 Comments

So yes, I went to Korea last October for the autumn. It wasn't as what I expected it to be but let's saved that later, alright? Korea is my cheaper alternative to Japan. I scored a seat sale with my college friends EA and Jelai. My current office friends also booked on the same dates. EA was unable to go, she was sent to Melbourne instead.

So it was autumn, and it was cold. We had to bring coats, and boots. I borrowed Makriz' and Izel's coats. Hihi. I have an old pair of boots. I could use the leggings I used when I went to Sydney. Layering should do. We decided to stay in the same hostel, Ara, Bren, Tink and her sister, Isel arrived early on October 6. I arrived later at night with Jelai, and Meann arrived after us. We made sure to get our T-Money at the airport as we would be using it for our transportation. You can get the cheapest T-Money for 2500 won. We took the bus 6002 from bus stop 5B (or 12A) going to Apple Backpackers. This took us around an hour to reach Jong no 3ga, and got off in front of Lotteria. We walked quite a bit with our baggage in tow to reach the hostel. We were tired on that day, and were hesitant to visit Everland, but nonetheless we decided to make this our first spot in Korea.

From Apple Backpackers, we took the subway going Everland, and we transfer for nth time to reach Everland. Everland is a theme park in Yongin, South Korea. It has five areas namely Global Fair, American Adventure, Magic Land, European Adventure and Zootopia.
the nth subway
We bought our tickets in the ticket office, and use our coupons. It was the Korea Grand Sale when we visited, we were able to score it for half the actual price. The theme on that day is probably halloween. Oh yes, just guessing. :P
Hi Everland!
kid
Colorful flowers were everywhere on the time of our visit. It was fitting for photos. Good thing, Jelai came with me. She took all of my beautiful photos. Hihi.
OOTD
smile pa more
We got tired and decided to wait for KFC to open up. Well, yes KFC in Everland. We came all the way from PH for the KFC chicken, you know? :P So while we waited, Jelai took this parang stolen, pero obvious na hindi photo. I am not really good in reading maps, so there. :P
Parang stolen pero obvious na hindi. :P
When we had our chicken fill, we took the cable car and transfer to the other area. So yes, there is a cable car that you could use.
cable car
We headed to the Carnival Square, and caught this performance. We stopped to watch. Shouldn't take a genius to guess what the theme noh? :P
at the Carnival Square
We decided to try the Mystery Mansion, it was a little bit of fun shooting at the ghosts. Hehe. We explored the place again, and decided to line up in the Safari World. Just a quick meet and greet to the kings of the jungle. Haha.

When the meet and greet was over, we headed to the Amazon Express. They probably miss Enchanted Kingdom. Kidding. We were provided with waterproof tarp so we didn't really get wet.
the Amazon Express
It was time to stay put, so we headed to watch the sea lion show. For whatever it's worth, I always watch sea lion, even penguin, performance whenever I have the chance. It's always interesting to watch them, and considering the effort to train them, it should always be worth watching.
the show
The Safari World meet and greet wasn't enough for us that day, we went ahead and lined up at the Lost Valley. Some safari adventure, huh. We rode the convertible amphibian vehicle together with the other guests. This vehicle brought us closer to the different animals at the Lost Valley.
the convertible amphibian vehicle

too close?
It was wonderful to see these animals up close, even though I am not honestly not very fond of animals. Well, I am fine looking at them. But touching, no. When we were done exploring the Lost Valley, we've decided to get an ice cream. We were initially searching for the Baskin Robbins that I saw earlier, but could not find it, so we settled to the nearest ice cream that we saw that time. It was still expensive, mind you.
my favorite photo
We Lola mode on the rest of the afternoon, so we just explored the place, and did not try any other ride. But guys, we still walked quite a lot too. So it's not really Lola mode. We went to the garden area, these should be my favorite area, hmmm, away from the hustle and bustle of the theme park.

We were able to watch the parade from here too.
There were just so many spots to photograph here. Oh yes, even with that theme. :P

may photobomber hihi
rest and then fly again
We stayed in this area until it gotten dark. We wanted to see the Rose Garden at night. Jelai said that it would be nice at night. Of course, my photo did not really do justice.
the roses at night
Oh, and just when I thought it was time to go home, we went inside the K-Pop Hologram. Isel wanted to see it. Not a K-Pop fan, but it was fun to try it. You will experience the power of technology inside.

After the K-Pop excitement died down, it was finally time to go home. We took the bus, instead of the subway. It was a long day.

More than the Weight Loss

March 27, 2016 Tsina 0 Comments

I struggle on my weight. I used to be really thin back in college. I maintained it on my first years at work. But when I started working in night shift, I started gaining weight too. I don't really monitor my weight, I can definitely not tell you my weight back then. But I could tell you that I have lots of clothes that I could no longer wear. Oh, I was XS back then. When I moved in my current company three years back, I started wearing XL. I love wearing oversized clothes, but it doesn't felt like oversized anymore by this time.

I did boxing to at least lose a bit of weight. For a time, it worked. But I stopped boxing. I stopped running at the Ayala Triangle. In 2015, I stopped any form of exercise altogether. To be fair, I stopped being happy back then (lol).

One day, I was looking at my photos that I will use in my blog. I found only few photos that I could feature. Because what the heck, I have bunch of unflattering photos. Here's the thing, I always make it a point not to choose photos that would show my tummy, or my arms. Yes, I became that insecure on my body. I used not to care on my weight. By then, I knew it has gotten bad. I went to the clinic, and found out that it has really gotten bad. I was 63.2kg. I was averaging 60kg in three years. Mygawd.

I started running again in Ayala Triangle. My friend, Riza, introduced me to Kfit this January. I signed up on January 16, and took my first yoga session in Bliss Yoga. Kfit is a mobile application that allows you to book unlimited times to any of their partners for a number of sessions per partner for PhP999 a month. I took boxing again, I did a lot of yoga, I tried circuit, I found Barre3.

This was also the same time that I tried the food delivery I found in Instagram. I started in Gourmet Kusina on January 25. I took the budget meal for the diet program, which includes lunch and dinner minus the breakfast, for PhP2749/12 days. Not bad, it's only PhP229 per day. I am not strict on the diet. I still go out with friends. I still eat pizza. I drink wine. But I try to avoid food that I know would be terrible for my goal. I avoid bread, chips, chocolates, beers, and donuts as much as I could. But I cheated few times because my ever supportive friends tempted me with these. I could not, however, give up coffee (and wine!).

I lose a lot of weight on my first week. I instantly lose the 3kgs that prompted me to start this fitness journey. I was overjoyed. My pants were starting to look bigger on me too. I could not be any happier.

I am close to my weight goal of 55kgs right now. I am continuously monitoring my weight, and eating healthy as much as I could. I still do a lot of exercise.  But Kfit changed their All Access Pass to Fitness Pass which allows me to do only 10 activities per month. But still not bad, I guess. I bought a Fitbit Charge HR, together with my friends Tink, Ja and Makriz. It's an activity tracker, it monitors my steps, workouts, active minutes, heart rate, sleep rate and calories burned among others. I am now conscious on the number of steps I make per day. I found out that I only make around 4000 steps a day on a work week. I make around 500 steps a day when I'm home, ugh. I am able to monitor my sleep, I initially found out that I'm averaging 5-6hrs every day. I also found out that I burn a lot of calories during a hot yoga than in any of my activities. My Fitbit is that helpful to my fitness journey.
the yellow minion and the purple Fitbit
Aside from the weight loss, I am tremendously happy on the mental and emotional benefits of all these. I become a seriously happier person. Let's be honest, I felt lost last year. I lose my interests and focus on a lot of things. But right now, I am a happier person again. I don't get mad about nonsensical things anymore. I am consistently not wasting my energy on toxic people. My friend teased me on this. But hey, it's an improvement, right? I usually ignore the ads on the benefits of being active, but it looks like these are true. According to an instagram post of Yoga+, there are many emotional benefits of meditation (yes, yoga). I should have paid attention to these before. Hehe.

So, happier me, check. Plus, I also become more confident on myself. I have learned to accept my body. Yes, it's not perfect, and probably would never be, but I am fine with it. When you take yoga sessions, especially the hot ones, you will see yogis wearing as little as possible because of the heat. The hot ones are usually done in a room heated to about 36 degrees in Yoga+ and 40 degrees in Bikram Yoga. Because of my regular sessions, I learned to love every cellulites in my body, or my protruding tummy. I don't hesitate posting photos now even with my tummy not in check. If I'd known I would be all these, I should have taken yoga seriously before.

But this fitness journey isn't easy. It's a constant struggle. I usually would talk to Dinh, and tell her that I eat this much, and I feel lousy about it. She usually would remind me not to waste my efforts. It is also difficult to say no to chocolates, or cakes, or whatnots. I am a big eater, I used to be able to finish a box of JCO by myself. I could eat a box of Toblerone in one sitting. I love buffets. It is also hard to eat my calorie-counted meal when my friends were having their fries. This is more of a mental challenge. But so far, I am happy on what I have achieved.

It's more than the weight loss, but it's more of the peace, happiness, contentment and confidence that I am gaining from this fitness journey. I am happy on my newfound balance. So, yes it's more than the weight loss, I am totally happy on every single thing that's happening to me.
Hiiiii

Oh, let's be honest. I've been pretty busy the past months that I neglected my blog. I've spent most of my time working and working out. I would share that on a separate post, my fitness journey. Naks naman! Personal development di baaaaaa? :P Nasa vision board ko naman yan. :P So that is why I could only blog about things that I could write in two minutes. Hihi. I would usually end my everyday ritual at 10pm, and I need to sleep by that time. For a number of times, I ended up sleeping at past midnight, which is terrible for me and my skin. Blame my Fitbit and the step challenge!

But I'll find time to write about my Korea, Cebu and Bohol, Batangas and Boracay trip on the next days. Plus the fitness journey. Promise!

You look at me the way he used to look at me, calculating. I got scared. In the midst of finding myself again, I see you. You come with complications, and I dislike every bit of it. This won't work.

In the midst of finding myself, I feel you threatening the newfound balance. I appreciate every small things you do for me. But I dislike complications.

You look at me the way he used to look at me. And I find myself staring at those pair of eyes, waiting for it to speak what I would like to hear. I need to calm my soul. You have to calm my soul.

You look at me the way he used to look at me. I find myself scared for my newfound balance. I should scurry away.

I cannot fathom the depth of your silence. Nor the uneasiness of your gaze. I will always be a bystander, I guess.

I always blog about being unhappy every single time at this point of the year. But this year's different. This is probably the best one I had in years. Like seriously. Appreciation matters, really. Thank you for acknowledging our hard work (and more). I deserve a bottle of wine!!
